Glass wool to order
Glass wool is industrially produced by melting a batch of glass and sand
at a temperature ranging from 1,300-1,500°C. This is then converted into
fibres with the addition of a binder which increases their cohesiveness.
The fibre is heated to about 200°C and calendered to increase its
mechanical resistance and stability. The glass wool is then cut to make
rolls or panels for action at high pressures.
Its properties derive from its downy macroscopic structure which deadens
sound and, given that it incorporates large amounts of air, provides
heat insulation. It also withstands very high temperatures thanks to its
elevated heat resistance. Isolform purchases this wool in
rolls and cuts it and bonds it to suitable materials. |
